When should you switch platforms?
Not every problem calls for a platform switch. Sometimes the right plugin or a settings change is enough, and we'll tell you so honestly. The decision to switch e-commerce platforms usually comes up after these signs:
- You keep getting "that can't be done on this platform" for the features you need
- Plugins conflict with each other and something breaks with every update
- You've had to set up extra systems for needs such as B2B, multiple stores or a product configurator
- Maintaining the site takes someone working on it full-time
- You wait days for answers to support requests
Migration step by step
1. Preliminary analysis
We review your current store: number of products and variants, category structure, customer and order data, integrations in use, and the pages that bring in search traffic. The result is a written plan explaining what will be moved and how. We can do this step as part of a free preliminary analysis.
2. Data transfer
- Products, variants, images and product attributes (as custom fields)
- Categories and brands
- Customer records and addresses
- Past orders, if needed
- Content pages and blog posts
For security reasons, customer passwords may not be transferable; in that case, we prepare a friendly "please reset your password" flow for customers.
3. Parallel setup
The new store is set up on a separate test address. Design, payments, shipping and integrations are tested there. Throughout this period your current store keeps selling, and nothing about it is touched.
4. URL mapping and SEO protection
To preserve your search rankings, every old URL is listed and each one is permanently redirected to its new counterpart. Titles and meta descriptions are carried over, and missing ones are filled in with the AI-assisted SEO tools.
5. One-step go-live
Once everything has been checked and approved together with you, the domain is pointed to the new system. At the moment of the switch, any pending orders in the old store are transferred one last time. In the days after the switch, search engine records, error pages and the payment flow are closely monitored.
How long does migration take?
It depends on the number of products, the complexity of the integrations and your design needs. At the end of the preliminary analysis, we give you a written timeline and stick to it. What matters is that your sales don't stop during that time.
Single point of contact
In migration projects, most of the time is lost coordinating between different companies. At Globya, software, hosting, integration and SEO are on the same team, so that coordination burden doesn't fall on you. We describe how we work on our how we work page.
Frequently asked questions
Will our site go down during the migration?
No. The new store is prepared on a separate address; the old store keeps running until the moment the domain is redirected.
Will our Google rankings drop?
When URL mapping and redirects are done completely, rankings are preserved. In the weeks after the switch, we monitor search engine records and fix any issues quickly.
Will our marketplace listings be affected?
Marketplace listings are matched to the new system by barcode or stock code; you don't need to recreate your listings.
