Integration · Payments

Let your international customers pay the way they already know.

For brands selling abroad, PayPal is a payment method buyers trust. Because of its status in Türkiye, however, a PayPal integration is not right for every company. On this page we explain plainly what is possible.

What is PayPal, and what is the situation in Türkiye?

PayPal, headquartered in the US, is one of the most widely used online payment services in the world. Buyers can pay with their PayPal account without re-entering card details on every site, which makes it a familiar and trusted method, especially for consumers in the US and Europe.

In Türkiye the situation is different: in 2016, because of its licensing process in Türkiye, PayPal stopped serving accounts based in Türkiye. That is why a PayPal integration mostly comes up for companies that sell abroad and have a company outside Türkiye or an account in a country PayPal serves. We recommend confirming the current situation and your account's eligibility with PayPal's own terms and your financial advisor; on the technical side, we focus on showing you the right route.

In international sales, the choice of payment method directly affects conversion; a buyer may give up on an unfamiliar payment page. So we assess together which payment method is expected in which country and which ones are possible with your company structure, and do the technical setup based on that decision.

Typical scenarios

  • A brand selling through a company abroad: In a store operating on behalf of your company based in Europe, PayPal is offered as a second option alongside card payment; the payment result goes to the order and the collection into your accounting routine.
  • Multilingual, multi-currency site: On IMFLEXI, different payment methods are defined for each country store; PayPal appears only in the store where it applies. Details: IMFLEXI multi-store.
  • Dispute management: When a buyer disputes a payment, the notification lands in the panel and the related order and shipping details are shown side by side, so your team can respond quickly.

Alternatives for selling abroad from Türkiye

If you cannot use PayPal, the road to international sales is not closed. Payment institutions in Türkiye and banks' virtual POS (payment gateway) services can accept foreign cards, and marketplaces collect payment themselves. We assess which route fits your business using the questions we cover in the article choosing a payment platform. For an international marketplace, see Amazon integration.

How do we work?

  1. Analysis: We discuss your company structure, the countries you sell to and the status of your PayPal account; if it is not a fit, we say so from the start.
  2. Mapping: Currencies, order statuses, the refund and dispute flow and accounting records are mapped.
  3. Test environment: All scenarios are tried in PayPal's developer sandbox.
  4. Go-live: It is switched on with the live account, and the first payments are checked together.
  5. Monitoring: Every request and notification is logged; a notification that cannot be processed is queued and retried.

What to prepare before we start

  • The country where your company and PayPal account are based
  • The countries and currencies you sell in
  • Your other payment methods
  • Who will manage refunds and disputes
  • Contact details of your financial advisor who knows how foreign currency collections are booked

If PayPal is not right for you, we say so clearly at this stage and choose an alternative route together.

Security and KVKK

Buyers enter their payment details in the PayPal environment; card or account details never reach your site. API credentials are kept in a restricted configuration, not in the code. PayPal is a service headquartered abroad, so sharing buyer data should be assessed as a cross-border transfer under KVKK (Türkiye's Personal Data Protection Law). The privacy notice and the necessary legal basis are prepared with this in mind; we handle this as part of KVKK compliance work at no extra charge.
