What is a reconciliation question?
A reconciliation question is a question generated so that a situation crossing a threshold in a report gets checked by the right person. For example, if work that has shipped but not been invoiced exceeds a certain amount, someone should ask whether this relates to period-end invoicing deadlines.
Each of READERP's composite reports generates reconciliation questions for situations in the data that cross thresholds, and sorts them by who can answer them.
Three audiences
Certified public accountant (YMM) and external accountant
Questions about definitions, period allocation and regulations. For example:
- Is the gap between shipment-based revenue and ledger revenue made up of shipments not yet invoiced at period end? Are there shipments past the invoicing deadline? (Provisions of the Turkish Tax Procedure Law on valuation and documentation)
- Has a provision for doubtful receivables been set aside for receivables older than 180 days? Which ones have had a lawsuit or enforcement proceedings started?
- Are sales returns during the period tracked in the relevant account, or deducted by reversing entries?
Finance
Reconciliation and collection questions. For example, payment matches that contradict the aging assumption, whether certain entries were posted in the right period, and balance differences on foreign-currency customer accounts.
Management
Decision questions. For example, a single product group carrying most of the revenue, payables concentrated with a single supplier, or collection times lengthening quickly for a particular customer group.
Not a checklist
A static checklist shows the same thirty items in every report; after the third month, whoever reads it skips all of them. The questions in READERP arise from the data: a question appears only when the figure that triggers it crosses the threshold. Where it isn't relevant, it is never asked.
Each question carries the figure that triggered it. That way the reader can argue with the threshold, not with the wording. That's the difference between a report and an opinion.
Questions are generated, opinions are not
READERP tells you what needs to be confirmed; it doesn't give the answer and doesn't offer legal or financial opinions. The assessment is the job of your external accountant, your finance team and management. The system only puts in front of them what they should look at, together with the figure.
The same approach on the payroll side
The consistency check in the payroll report works on the same logic: findings such as SGK (Türkiye's Social Security Institution) day cuts, unreported periods, or two workplaces in the same month arrive with their own code, routed to the relevant person.
Where do they appear?
- Revenue analysis: the gap between shipments and invoices
- Receivables aging: old receivables and provisions
- Cash conversion cycle: supplier concentration
- Expense breakdown: year-end closing entries and account classification
Frequently asked questions
Are reconciliation questions sent to our accountant automatically?
The questions are listed with the report, routed to the relevant person. They can be set up to go to specific people by scheduled email.
Can we set the thresholds ourselves?
The default thresholds are values tested on real data. If your company's scale calls for different thresholds, they are adjusted during setup.
Do these questions replace an audit?
No. Reconciliation questions don't replace an audit; they make the work of your accountant and auditor easier by showing in advance where to look.
