What does a technical SEO audit look at?
A technical SEO audit examines your site's infrastructure before its content. The question is simple: can Google find the important pages on your site, load them quickly and understand them correctly? If the answer is "no," even the best-written copy will not show up in search.
In the audit, we combine automated crawling tools, Google Search Console data and manual checks. Rather than passing on the tools' warnings as they are, we sort out which ones really matter.
Main areas we check
Speed and Core Web Vitals
Core Web Vitals are the three metrics Google uses to measure page experience: how long it takes for the main content of the page to appear, how quickly the page responds to clicks, and whether elements shift around while it loads. Large images, unnecessary plugins and uncompressed files are the causes we run into most often.
Crawlability and indexing status
An example: a manufacturer's product pages generate thousands of different URLs because of filter parameters, Google spends its crawl budget on these copies, and new products go unindexed for weeks. Issues like this are solved with canonical tags and a tidy parameter setup.
Structure and tags
Every page should have a unique title and description, the heading hierarchy should flow logically, and URLs should be readable. 301 redirects forgotten during site migrations are also a common cause of lost traffic.
Checklist
- Does robots.txt leave important pages unblocked?
- Is the XML sitemap up to date and submitted to Search Console?
- Are there broken links (404s) or redirect chains?
- Is canonical set correctly for duplicate content?
- Do the mobile layout and tap targets work without issues?
- Is HTTPS enforced on every page, and are there any mixed content warnings?
- Are images compressed and do they have alt text?
- On a multilingual site, are the hreflang tags correct?
- Does the structured data validate without errors?
What happens after the audit?
We split the findings into three groups: critical issues that directly affect indexing or traffic, speed and experience improvements, and long-term structural changes. If we manage the site, we make the fixes directly. If it runs on another platform, we give your developer a clear task list with screenshots.
The audit is the first step of our SEO and GEO service. If your site runs on an outdated platform, a new corporate website may make more sense than patching it, and we will tell you so plainly. If we see slowness caused by the server, we also look at the hosting and maintenance side.
Frequently asked questions
How often should a technical SEO audit be done?
Always after major changes (a site migration, a new design, a platform change); otherwise, a comprehensive audit once or twice a year plus monthly Search Console monitoring is enough for most companies.
Isn't the score from off-the-shelf tools enough?
Tools are a good starting point, but they do not know the context. Some warnings are unimportant, while some serious problems produce no warning at all. Interpreting the results takes an experienced eye.
Will the audit slow down our site?
No. The crawl runs at a controlled rate and no changes are applied to the live site.
